Does JR pass make sense?

For your itinerary it is likely to be more cost-effective to purchase your tickets individually. However, the JR Pass will cover most of your itinerary and so it is still an option worth looking into if you feel that a pass is better suited for you. The price difference would be about £50 GBP.

Please note that travel to Hakone is not directly covered by the pass. It's therefore worth looking into a Hakone FreePass - our site does not sell this as the trains that connect Odawara to Hakone are operated privately and not by the JR group. The pass includes the round trip from Odawara to Hakone and back, as well as covering all major transit links within Hakone including sightseeing cruise for Lake Ashinoko, cable cars and local bus travel. It seems like a good idea for you even if you don't end up purchasing a JR Pass, as the Hakone Pass is available for 2/3 days, which aligns with your itinerary.
