Dear JR Team
Good afternoon.

Could you kindly evaluate our below itinerary and advise whether a JR pass makes sense (and if not, what is the price difference); we are thinking to buy the 7 day pass and use it from July 24th morning to July 31st evening.

July 20th Arrive Toyko
July 24th morning Depart Tokyo to Hakone
July 26th morning Hakone to Kyoto
July 29th evening Kyoto to Hiroshima
July 30th evening Hiroshima to Osaka
July 31st evening Osaka (City) to Kansai Airport

thank you so much
Al

Hi there,

For your itinerary it is likely to be more cost-effective to purchase your tickets individually. However, the JR Pass will cover most of your itinerary and so it is still an option worth looking into if you feel that a pass is better suited for you. The price difference would be about £50 GBP.

Please note that travel to Hakone is not directly covered by the pass. It's therefore worth looking into a Hakone FreePass - our site does not sell this as the trains that connect Odawara to Hakone are operated privately and not by the JR group. The pass includes the round trip from Odawara to Hakone and back, as well as covering all major transit links within Hakone including sightseeing cruise for Lake Ashinoko, cable cars and local bus travel. More info, as well as a map detailing this, can be found here. It seems like a good idea for you even if you don't end up purchasing a JR Pass, as the Hakone Pass is available for 2/3 days, which aligns with your itinerary.

Hope this helps!

Alexis
