To get maximum benefit for 7 days pass, want to activate pass in TAKAYAMA on a Saturday AM (for trip to Ise, then Tokyo etc)
Can pick up pass in Kansai week before, but not activate there, but rather Takayama station. Can we do there, or on train to ISe?

Hi there,
You can't activate the JR Pass at Takayama, a full list of places can be found here:
https://www.jrpass.com/blog/where-to-exchange-the-japan-rail-pass
Instead, I'd activate the JR Pass at Kansai, then set the starting date on the day that you want to start using it.
