Booking trains before arriving in Japan

Hi we are looking at buying JR green 7 day pass for May 2025. We want to book the train seats/luggage as early as possible, as we have multiple stops on our trip over the seven days and know it is Golden Week. I know we can order the JR pass 6mths in advance, but see we need to exchange the voucher once in Japan.

Can we book using the order details as soon as we book the JR pass? If so, how? Thanks,

Hi there,

No I’m afraid this isn’t an option, as to begin making reservations you have to have at least set an activation date for the Pass when exchanging it in once in Japan, so my suggestion would be to do this as soon as possible so you can make reservations as soon as possible.

Is there any way to book trains in advance of arriving in Japan then? We arrive 1st May 2025 (afternoon - using hotel shuttle) and will need trains on 3rd (from Disney to Tokyo station) and then 4th (Tokyo station to universal city) with luggage, so knowing it is Golden week, wanted to book as far in advance as possible.

When you arrive in Japan on the 1st you can then do the exchange process and set the activation date for the 3rd - immediately after you can begin making reservations from the 1st for the 3rd onwards, giving you two days in advance to begin making reservations and more for the rest of your trip so you should be fine.
