Not sure if JR Pass covers all local suburban trasnport as well

The JR Pass will cover all JR-operated express and Shinkansen bullet train lines, as well as a limited number of metro lines, buses and ferries such as the ferry to Miyajima Island. The JR Pass would cover all of your itinerary, but my recommendation would be to purchase a 7-day JR Pass that would begin with the Shinkansen trip from Tokyo to Osaka. Bear in mind this would mean having to purchase the return trip for Fuji separately.

In general I'd suggest getting a Suica anyway as the JR Pass is very limited in terms of providing local city transport: it includes some JR buses and the Yamanote line in Tokyo and the Loop line in Osaka, but if you plan on utilising public transport more it'd be a good idea to get one, as it can then be used in all major cities you're travelling to after Tokyo.
