We are a family of 4 traveling to Japan in May 2024. We will travel from Tokyo to Kyoto and then to Naoshima and then return to Tokyo. It's very confusing trying to decide what tickets are best. I have been quoted very different costs on 2 rail ticket sites for the same trains. Which is the best site to use from the UK? We will be in Japan for a total of 8 days. Should we buy Japan rail pass? Or regional rail pass or just individual tickets?

Hi there,
The JR Pass cost will be roughly equivalent to the expense of purchasing tickets individually because of your extended use of the Shinkansen bullet trains. I would therefore suggest purchasing one as for a similar price it would make planning your trip a lot easier and allow you to make day trips if you wish to out of Tokyo/Kyoto etc, plus basic travel on the Tokyo metro via the JR Yamanote Loop line.
