I will be in Japan 10/8-10/17 spending half the time in Fukuoka (flying into Fukuoka airport) taking day trips in Kyushu and the other half in Kyoto and Osaka (flying out of KIX). Exact plans each day are still a work in progress. Looking at the interactive map, there aren’t many local lines available for getting from one side of town to the other. Would I benefit from an IC Card and a rail pass? What would be the best balance of cost effectiveness and efficiency?

Hi there,
Based on your itinerary, I would recommend either the Northern Kyushu Pass, the Sanyo-San'in Area Pass or the combined Sanyo-San'in Northern Kyushu Pass.
To plan your specific journeys and check train connections, you can use Japan Travel by NAVITIME. It allows you to filter specifically for regional pass coverage.
I hope this helps with your travel planning!
Kind Regards,
Mariko
