Clarifications about activating Hokuriku arch pass and seats reservation

  1. I understand if I purchase a Hokuriku arch pass via JR-EAST site directly (instead of travel agency like Klook), I can reserve seats online with the pass, but I will still need to collect the actual pass upon arrival at airport?

  2. Can I confirm that I can also collect by printing the pass and the tickets I reserved at the machine (instead of the JR office)?

  3. In the event I cant make it for the shinkansen and Narita express I booked, can I just buy another ticket to replace at the machine or/and the JR office for the next available train?

  4. We are travelling with big luggage, what should we look out for on the machine if we book the tickets on the day of arrival?

  5. Do you have a video for reference in using the machine for printing passes as well as reserving the seats?

  6. I am landing on 2 April so we are afraid the lines at the JR office will be long during the Sakura season, but we are also not familiar in using the machine. FYI - We are heading to Kanazawa from Narita T1.

Hi there,

Yes you are right, you will need to exchange the order at a ticket office such as an eligible airport. The pass can also be bought at eligible locations, but I believe the price is higher.

Yes, you can reserve tickets at a ticket machine, but you'll need to exchange the pass at a ticket office. Ticket machines will vary at each station, but there will be an english option so you shouldn't have trouble finding the option to book for large luggage. There should be some tutorials on youtube as well.

I don't think we have a video, but if you have trouble you can always go to the manned ticket office or ask a member of JR Staff for support. If you're worried about lines, you can reserve for all of your journey in one go so you can avoid the long lines repeatedly. If you miss a shinkansen you can just re-book another ticket, provided there is space on the train.
