Questions about the Osaka-Tokyo Hokuriku Arch Pass

Hello! I have a few questions regarding the Osaka-Tokyo Hokuriku Arch Pass and in general:

  • Would the Osaka-Tokyo Hokuriku Arch Pass be better than the JR Rail Pass if I'm only planning on using the Shinkansen to travel from Tokyo to Osaka/Kyoto roundtrip?
  • How far in advance should I order my pass if I plan to go to Japan in mid-March 2023?
  • Would I pick up the pass at an exchange location in Japan or will it be shipped to my address in the U.S.?

Hi there,

1.) It will save you a bit of money, but the travel time is a lot longer and is limited to the Hokuriku Arch Area. So unless you value the savings more than your time, then the 7-day JR Pass is the best option for you.

2.) I recommend a month or so, as we do need to deliver the pass to you. For most states, this can be done overnight, but there is no reason to wait to the last minute and have to worry about it.

How long will the Exchange Order be shipped to my address in the U.S. if I order it now? My trip will be in two weeks on March 14.
