My family (2 adults and 2 kids aged 9 and 4) plans to arrive in Japan 29 Dec 2023. After reading about the JR pass increase, could you please help me with the questions below?
- Can we pre-purchase JR Pass 14 days for 2 adults and our 9yo now and have the ticket issued on 30/09/23 so we can activate on 29/12/23? What would be the last date that we can purchase a JR pass under the old prices?
- Can we then first start using the JR Pass on 01/01/2024 until 14/01/2024?
- For our 4yo, I understand he does not need a JR Pass, however if there is no seat on the train he will have to sit on our laps?
- We are from Sydney, Australia, is it possible to buy JR Pass from your website?

Hello Lihny,
Technically yes, but you'd be on the absolute last day that this is possible (!). That would also mean that if you are arriving later in Japan than the 29th (for example through a flight delay) then you may still have to get new passes.
That said, the discount you get can be worth it for sure! You can order your passes now, but once you do, kindly contact our staff at [email protected] with your order# and tell us that you only want your passes issued on the 30th! We'll then make sure we do this for you.
