Tokyo-Matsumoto-Kanazawa

Hi Rico,

Yes the JR Pass covers the complete route between Matsumoto and Kanazawa. Visiting Osaka, Kyoto and Hiroshima is also covered!

As for Kanazawa, I would recommend a visit to the local Geisha Quarter, Kanazawa castle, the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art and - not to forget - Kenrokuen one of the most beautiful gardens in Japan.

I am considering now to buy a 14 days pass as I would say much more than to buy single tickets, the prices look higher from Hypedia than the Pass (for example Tokyo-Matsumoto return costs almost like the difference between 7 and 14 days) - am I correct?

I checked the prices and I got unreserved seats, reserved seats or First Class, how is it going to work with the Japan Rail Pass? Should I buy the seat reservation or just get an unreserved seat for free?

Hello Rico,

The 14 day JR Pass is a great option for your itinerary. Just visiting Hiroshima will pay for the greater part. A one way ticket Tokyo - Matsumoto is between ¥ 6,700 and ¥ 8,760, depending on whether you use the Shinkansen (a return ticket is simply double the price). Both options are covered by the JR Pass. With the JRP normal ticket reservations are included free of charge and make for convenient travel.
