Hello Daniel-San
Today is the 1st day of March, can't wait to start my trip to Japan in May!
This morning I was to buy the 5-day JR East pass (Nagano & Niigata) from an online agency in Malaysia.
During the booking, I was required to select a visit date within a given date range of 4th March - 31 March 2023.
As my date of arrival is 8th May, 2023 and after searching for information on the site, I concluded that I could choose any date in the given range, as long as I physically redeem the JR pass with the "exchange order" issued by the travel agency that I will receive via email, within a period of 90 days from date of buying.
I was given this link by the customer service person:
https://www.jreast.co.jp/multi/en/pass/eastpass_n.html
I was reading about the part "Purchasing a pass from a travel agency in another country".
Am I right to assume that it doesn't matter what is the "visit date" that I select during my booking as long as my use is going to be within 90 days of buying the pass?
Appreciate your quick advise
Buying JR East Pass
Hi there,
I believe you will be alright, as most passes can be activated within 90 days of issue date.
I can't comment on your pass specifically, as it was not purchased through JRPass.com, but again I don't expect an issue.
Kind regards,
Daniel
Thanks Daniel.
But JR East passes are not available on your site? I looked under JR Pass and Regional Pass but don't see it anywhere
Yes, we only sell a few JR East passes at the moment, but not the one you're looking for.
I hope this will return in the foreasable future.
Hi Daniel, I thought I'd give you an update.
I went ahead to buy the JR Pass and received an "Electronic Ticket Passenger Exchange Order" with issue date of 2 March 2023, valid until 1 June 2023.
It's stated on the voucher that says " You have 3 months from the first day of travel indicated to collect your JR East Pass ...",
I guess the "first day of travel indicated" is the visit date that I have used when buying, which I put as 31 March.
My actual date of arriving is 8 May.
So I think all's well now.
