We're going to Japan in April and will be travelling from Osaka to Takayama and from Takayama to Kanazawa then from Kanazawa back to Osaka and was just wondering if it is worth buying the 7 Days JR Green Pass or to purchase individual trips Green tickets.

For your specific route, individual Green Car tickets offer the best value. You could also consider the 5-day Takayama-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass for significant savings, though it is only valid for Ordinary Car seats.
