Hi

Still trying to plan a 15 day trip in Japan from end May to early June and this is our suggested itinerary so far.

May 22: Land Narita evening

May 23 & 24: Tokyo (day trips to Nikko and Mt Fuji, Hakone)

May 25: Takayama

May 26: Kanazawa, Shirikawago

May 27-June 2 : Osaka (day trips to Hiroshima, Miyajima?, Kyoto, Kobe, Nara )

June 3-4: Tokyo

June 5 Depart Tokyo

1.) Would a 7-day JR pass suffice?

Thank you kindly for any suggestions and tips

Charity

Hi,
If you used a 7 day pass from May 25th to start your trip to Takayama, the last day of your pass would be May 31st - with the trip to Hiroshima and Miyajima, you'd make a 7 day pass pay off, but you'd still be stuck in Kansai and not back to Tokyo. With a 14 day pass, you could use it from Narita and to Nikko, plus to Odawara for Hakone, and of course back to Tokyo after Kansai, so you would make it pay off very nicely.
What do you wish to do?

Hi Charity,

I think using a 14 day JR Pass makes the most sense here. You will be traveling quite a lot from the start and the JR Pass will be a good help traveling to Nikko and Hakone. Using a 14 day JR Pass would also cover your return to Tokyo and any local travel there on JR lines.

All together it would help you make better savings, than buying a 7 day JR Pass + local tickets.

Good to know is that there are a couple of parts that are not included.

These are local travel within the Hakone area and the bus to and from Shirakawa-go.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
