Hello,

My family of 5- youngest 12 yr old so all adults (?) are traveling to Chiba on March 10,2018 and we are planning the following itinerary:
Chiba-yokohama: March 10
Yokohama-Chiba: March 11
Chiba-Kyoto: March 13
Kyoto-Hiroshima:March 15
Hiroshima-miyajima: March 16
Miyajima-hiroshima: March 16
Hiroshima-Tokyo: March 17
Tokyo- Narita: March 18

Could you please give me the most optimum estimate for these trips for 5 people?

Also I would appreciate to have a Shinkansen ride if no additional cost is expected?

Will it be additional cost to get reserved seats?

Hello there,

Children be 0-5 years old can travel for free but you are expected to put them on your lap if trains are busy, as they are not entitled for a seat. If you want to have guaranteed seating for them, then a child pass is recommended. Child passes are available for ages 6-11, ages 12 and above are considered adult tickets.

The most economic option would your trip would be to use a 7 day JR Pass for travel from March 13th. As travel to Kyoto, Hiroshima and back to Tokyo is by far the most expensive. You could then buy normal tickets for the first days around Chiba and Yokohama.

Shinkansen are included in the JR Pass and seat reservations can be made free of charge in advance. More details see:
