Going to Japan in November - trips covered by the JR Pass?

Hello,

I'm planning a trip to Japan in mid-november, from nov 11 until nov 26. I'm planning the first week on Tokyo, but the second week is spanning several cities. Right now the route is:

Arrival on Nov 11
1. Nov 11-Nov 17: Tokyo (including a trip to Chureito Pagoda)
2. Trip from Tokyo to Kyoto, stay in Kyoto until Nov 20
3. Trip from Kyoto to Osaka, stay in Osaka until Nov 22
4. Trip from Osaka to Fukuoka (Hakata), 1 night, until Nov 23
5. Trip from Fukuoka to Hiroshima, 1 night, until Nov 24
6. Trip from Hiroshima to Nagoya, 1 night, until Nov 25
7. Trip from Nagoya to Tokyo, 1 night, until Nov 26
8. Nov 26: Flight back home

I do realize the second leg of the trip is tightly scheduled, but there are plans I have on those cities in those specific days, and that's the way I managed to plot the routes.

My question is: Is this manageable? I'm figuring an average between 2 and 4 hours per train trip, but are they readily available? I'm planning on catching the earlier trains of the day in the day trips in the final stretch, so I can arrive in the cities by lunch, but I can't seem to find train availability time tables to plan myself around.

Are all those routes covered by the JR Pass? I'm seeing several options of shinkansen from Hiroshima to Nagoya, roughly every 20 minutes, which is wonderful, but all of those are in the Nozomi line, which apparently isn't covered in the JR Pass.

Kind regards,
Gustavo

Hi Gustavo,

Yes, this is certainly manageable. The only trip a bit long would be to Fukuoka. The rest is all very well spaced. During the day, Shinkansen trains covered by the JR Pass depart every 30min of average, so you have plenty of options. I recommend reading htis post:

and Yes, all these routes are covered by the Japan Rail Pass. You can use both Hikari and Sakura Shinkansen services for these. Again, the most above will tell you all about it.

Kind regards,
Daniel
