Hi! This is my first time traveling in Japan. Just wondering if the itinerary I made is feasible. Also, how do we navigate the locations? Would it be best to purchase a JR pass or just buy the all day access in the city? My friend and I are travelling for 10 days (Tokyo-Osaka-Narra-Kyoto-Tokyo). Our itinerary is as follows:

Day 1: Arrival in Tokyo thru Narita Terminal 2
Transit to Tokyo home at Asaka-shi, Saitama Prefecture PM-travel to Odaiba, Minato and Roppingi District

Day 2: Explore Asakusa, Ueno and Yanaka

Day 3: Explore Tsukishima, Central Tokyo (Imperial Palace, Ginza District, Koishikawa Korakuen) and Akihabara

Day 4: Explore Harajuku, Ebisu, Shibuya and Shinjuku

Day 5: Travel to Osaka (staying at Omiya, Asahi Ward)
Explore Osaka Station, Umeda/Kita District, Abeno Harukas, SHinsekai, Tenamagu Shrine

Day 6: Transit to USJ
PM - Explore Namba/Minami District

Day 7: Travel to Narra
PM - Transit to Kyoto (staying at Hyakumanbencho) Explore Fushimi Sake District, Nishi/Higashi Hongaji, Kyoto Station, Kyoto Tower

Day 8: Explore Kitano Tenman-gu, Ryoan-ji, Kinkaku-ji, Kibune, Kamigamo-jinga, Shugakuin, Sento and
Kyoto Imperial Palace

Day 9: Explore Fushimi Inari Taisah. Kiyomizu-dera, Higashiyama district, Gion district, and Arashiyama Area

Day 10: Transit to Tokyo (Staying at Yanagi-bashi, Taito-ku)

Day 11: Transit out from Narita 2

I have started to research on transportation routes but I am still confused. Correct me if I'm wrong, even if you purchase a JR Pass you still need to avail tickets for other lines not covered by JR to reach your destination? I was thinking of purchasing a 7 day pass and activate in on the way to Osaka and avail the all day access in Tokyo. Is this a better option? Please advise.

Would really appreciate your suggestion to improve the itinerary.

Thank you.

Hi there,

Using a 7 day JR Pass for your itinerary works great. To get the best use out of it, be sure to use it from day 5 all the way through to day 11. This would also match your plans to start using the JR Pass for when you leave to Osaka.

All your city to city travel is all included, making a good deal. Was there any point, in particular, you'd like feedback on?

Think you will have a great visit with all the above planned in.

Hope this helps!
Daniel
