Is it worth us getting the JR pass?

Hi

We are arriving in Tokyo on 13th July and we are planning the following:
Arrive Tokyo Airport and train into city center 13 July.
Train from Tokyo to Hiroshima 14 July
Train from Hiroshima to Kyoto 16 July
Train from Kyoto to Osaka 19 July
Train from Osaka to Tokyo 23 July
Tokyo day trip to Fuji and travel around Tokyo until 27 July when we leave Japan.

Would we be better off with a 14 day JR pass or buying separately? I have used the calculator which would suggest that the JR pass would cost us more than individual tickets.

Thank you for your help.

Hi there,

Since your travel dates are spread out, the Kansai-Hiroshima Area Pass (5 days) would be an excellent alternative.

To get the most value from the pass, you can exchange it in Osaka on your way from Tokyo to Hiroshima; however, please note that you would need to alight from the train to do so.

If you exchange it on 14 July once you arrive in Hiroshima, you can simply set the activation date for 15 July. This will ensure it remains valid until 19 July, which should better cover your onward journey.

I hope this helps!

Kind Regards,

Mariko
