hi guys,

would it be possible for someone to check for me if the below itinerary would require a JR pass, or not. help very much appreciated.

Tokyo - mount fuji (round trip)
tokyo - kyoto (one way trip)
kyoto - arashiyama (round trip)
Kyoto - nara (round trip)
Kyoto - osaka (on way trip)
osaka - hiroshima (round trip)
osaka - universal (round trip)
osaka - suzuka (round trip)
osaka - kyoto (one way trip)
tokyo - nikko (round trip)
tokyo - hakone (round trip)

we are planning this trip in a span of three weeks, so we would go for the 21 jr rail pass if necessary.

Kind regards,
Stephan

Hi there,

A JR Pass would help you in terms of the most expensive journeys you'll be making using the Shinkansen, however some stations such as Suzuka and Hakone aren't directly accessible via JR Pass alone and so you'll have to purchase separate tickets for those journeys.

Suzuka is only a short distance from Kawano on the Kansai line, so that shouldn't be a problem, but for a Hakone round trip you should look into purchasing a round trip Hakone FreePass, which will take you to and from Hakone back to Odawara towards Tokyo.

Hope this helps!

Alexis
