Hi JR Pass Team,

My husband and I are travelling to Japan for two weeks in March and our Itinerary is as below:

17th March - Arrive at Narita and go directly to Kyoto.
18th - 21st March - Kyoto + Nara
22nd March - travel from Kyoto to Osaka. visit Himeji.
23rd March - One day trip to hiroshima and Miyajima
24th March - Travel from Osaka to Kanazawa
25th March - One day trip to Takayama
26th March - One day trip to Shirakawa-go
27th March - Travel from Kanazawa to Tokyo
29th March - One day trip to Hakone
30th March - depart from Haneda.

Could you please suggest if I should get a 14 day pass or a 7 day pass + regional pass (if so which regional pass will be best?) Can I use the JR pass to travel within a city for example - use the local busses and trains?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help.

Regards,
Shruthi

Hello Shruthi,

You will be traveling every day and right away from your arrival in Japan. With that in mind, recommend using a 14 day JR Pass. It would cover travel between all the cities you plan to visit. The JR Pass can also be used on local JR lines within cities but other travel such as the Tokyo Metro is not included. Nice to know is that in Hiroshima, you can use the sightseeing loop bus and the ferry to Miyajima. Also the bus between Takayama - Shirakawa-go is not included in the JR Pass.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
