Hi

I'm planning an 9 day trip from Fukuoka to Osaka, including day trips from Osaka to Kyoto and Nara, then Osaka to Tokyo
I have already bought the 7 day JR pass but just wondering if buying a Suica card beforehand is worth it, and which areas it covers for my plan below (specifically if its ok for the areas in Osaka and Kyoto)

Day 1 Fukuoka kuko to Osaka
Day 2 Osaka Castle and Namba
Day 3 Osaka to Kyoto day trip - including Arashiyama, Fushimi Inari Taisha, Kinkakuji
Day 4 Osaka to Nara day trip
Day 5 transfer Osaka to Tokyo (Shinjuku)
Day 6 Tokyo - Harajuku, Shibuya.
Day 7 Tokyo - Tsukiji, Ginza, Tokyo Station area
Day 8 Tokyo - Asakusa, Tokyo skytree
Day 9 Narita airport transfer bus

Thank you in advance!

Hi there,

You can buy an IC card, like Suica at any stations in Japan. There's no real need to do so earlier. In Fukuoka, the IC card is called NIMOCA but works everywhere (same as Suica).

Travel between all the cities you plan to is covered by the JR Pass, as well as much of the local transport. The only part that I see so far is Kinkakuji and that can be reached by bus in Kyoto.

Have a good trip!
Daniel

Hope this helps,
Daniel
