JR Pass worth it?

I've been planning a trip to Japan for awhile now, I'll be there Oct 20-Nov 2. Originally I had thought the JR pass was definitely going to save me money, but now that I'm adding everything up I'm not sure. I'd like a second opinion, here's my itinerary:

Oct 20 21 22 23 Tokyo - Oct 24 Magome/Tsumago - Oct 25 26 27 Kyoto - Oct 28 Nara to Osaka - Oct 29 30 Hiroshima & Miyajima - Oct 31 Himeji to Osaka - Nov 1 Tokyo - Nov 2 depart from Haneda airport

When I use Hyperdia to research prices I come out to about $300 for the whole 14 days, not including transportation within each city. Does that sound accurate? I was always under the impression that travelling between these cities would be much more costly.

Hi,
I don't know how you are calculating it, but your figures are incorrect. Most likely, like many other people, you are simply adding the base fares together and excluding the seats fees, which you have to include.
For your plans you do in fact make a 14 day pass pay off.

An easier way for you is to use this JR Pass calculator. For Magome/Tsumago use "Kiso Valley". You can see for yourself.
