JR pass worth my trip?

Hi I have tried using some of the apps online to figure out if the JR pass is worth it. I have been reading Reddit forms and I am getting mixed information. Some say its worth it, while other say its not. I have a headache from reading and trying to figure this out. Can someone help me with my itinerary?

7 day Pass

Narita - Shibuya-ku (tokyo)
Shibuya-ku - Osaka
Osaka - Kyoto (day trip so will return back to Osaka)
Osaka to MAYBE kobe for a day trip (so will return back to Osaka)
Osaka - back to Shibuya-ku (tokyo)

I heard that I cant use the fast bullet train to Osaka but the other smaller bullet trains that I can use with the JR pass are just as good.

I am also flying JAL and read on the site I can get the JR pass from them, but how in the world do I do that? Call them?

Hello there,

A JR Pass would be worth considering for your trip. As a rule of thump, the cost of a 7 day JR Pass is about the same as a return ticket Tokyo - Kansai using the Shinkansen bullet trains. Kansai is the area in where Kyoto, Osaka, Nara and Kobe are located.

A JR Pass starts paying off with any additional travel, even one way Tokyo - Narita Airport would help you make savings and any additional travel just ads to this.

The JR Pass covers the bullet train from Tokyo - Osaka but not the fastest Nozomi service. You can take the Hikari instead, which makes a couple more stops on the way. The difference in travel time is around 19minutes only.
