We will have a JR pass...should we take a local train to stop at Fushimi Inari and then board an express for Nara from there? or would it be better to go to Nara first by an express train and do the stop in Inari afterwards? Thank you.

Hi there,
Either is possible and I don't think there's too much difference either way. Do keep in mind that most tourism spots in Nara close around 5 pm. Be sure to leave enough time to explore Nara :)
