Hi there

trying to find out if which itinerary will work best or some ideas to improve it. Should I get a 7 or 14 day pass?

We will be travelling from 1st March to 13th March 2018, it is just a starting point but would love some help. From what I have seen there is a lot to see Kyoto with history and culture so wondering if 2 or 3 days will work better.

Option 1:

Day 1 arrive late PM go to Kyoto
Day 2- 3 explore Kyoto
Day 4 Nara day trip
Day 5 Hikone/ Nagahama day trip
Day 6 Himeji 1/2 day trip kyoto
Day 7 kyoto
Day 8 travel to Tokyo
Day 9 Tokyo
Day 10 Tokyo
Day 11 go to Osaka am
Day 12 Osaka
Day 13 Osaka then airport late afternoon

Option 2:
Day 1 arrive late PM go to Kyoto
Day 2- 3 explore Kyoto
Day 4 Kyoto (Possibly go to Tokyo today or day 5 am?)
Day 5 Tokyo (Possibly arrive ?)
Day 6-7 explore Tokyo
Day 8 go to Osaka am
Day 9 Nara day trip
Day 10 Hikone/ Nagahama day trip
Day 11 Himeji 1/2 day trip and Osaka
Day 12 Osaka
Day 13 Osaka then airport late afternoon

Thank you!

Hi there,

Where will you arrive in Japan? Narita Airport, Kansai Airport, elsewhere? This makes quite the difference for your JR Pass. Since you are still in the planning stages, my first advice would be to try and see if you can fit your longer routes within the 7 day period that your pass is valid.

Option 2 seems to be the better choice for this from day 5 to day 11.

Kyoto is a really nice place to explore for culture and tradition, you could spend weeks seeing new stuff everyday. If possible I do recommend 3 days as a minimum.

Kind regards,
Daniel

Thank you Daniel-san. I thought option 2 would be better with JR pass. I will plan for 3 days in Kyoto there seems to be so much to see. Is there anywhere else you would recommend to visit with JR pass?
We will fly into kansai airport around 7.30pm from Australia and looking at get a shuttle to hotel.
