Hi,

We will be arrived at Tokyo on April 15 and most likely we will miss the cherry blossom in Tokyo. Based on our research, we can go either Matsumoto or Yokohama to see cherry blossom around that date. It will be a day trip from Tokyo. So which one do you think more preferable for us? And how much the travel cost for each if we dont want to activate our JR pass yet?

One more thing. We want to activate our JR pass on the fourth day of our trip, therefore we need to travel from Narita Airport to Shibuya without using JR pass. Which do you think the best option to travel with and how much it will cost (one way/ round ticket)?

Thank you for your help.

Hi there,

You can use the JR Pass Fare Calculator to find an approximate ticket cost of a single route or even your full itinerary. Yokohama would cost the less by far but the trip to Shinjuku is really nice if you enjoy travel travel and scenic landscapes. In that case I would recommend using the Azusa Express between Shinjuku, Tokyo and Matsumoto. Other options would be nice swing a bit up north, like Sendai or Matsushima. Both very nice visits for a day.

I would use the Narita Express directly between Narita Airport and Shibuya, this will cost around 3.000yen/one way. You can also use local trains if you want to save money. These are around 1.200-1.500yen/one way but slower and a lot less comfortable.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
