Narita - Osaka - Nagano - Narita

Hi!

April 12, 2017 (AM): Arriving at Narita. Then straight to Osaka. Stay Osaka 3 nights. 4 adults, 2 children.
April 15, 2017 (AM): 2 adults + 2 children go to Nagano. Stay Nagano 2 nights. ; other 2 adults depart from Osaka Airport.
April 17, 2017 (AM): 2 adults + 2 children go to Narita for flight

Question:
1. Is the itinerary covered by trains/shinkansen using JR Pass?
2. Is JR Pass recommended for all the passengers for the entire itinerary?
3. Or will it be cheaper for the 2 other adults just to get a 1-way train ticket from Narita to Osaka?

Hi there,

1.) Yes, the JR Pass covers travel between all these places and you can use the Shinkansen where available.

2 and 3.) I certainly would recommend a for Narita Airport - Osaka - Nagano - Narita Airport. You can make great savings here using the JR Pass. It will be cheaper to buy normal tickets for the adults who only travel to Osaka one way.

I realised the other child is only 4 years old, so no need to buy a JR Pass for him, correct? Just to confirm.

Where can we buy the normal tickets for the Narita Express and the Shinkasen (going to Osaka)?

Hi again,

Correct, children below the age of 6 can travel for free.

You can buy rail tickets at any JR station or service center.
