Hi, our travel dates have been set and I was wondering what my best rail pass options would be for the following itinerary:

21/3 Tokyo - Hakone
23/3 Hakone - Takayama
27/3 Takayama - Kanazawa
29/3 Kanazawa - Kyoto
12/4 Kyoto - Hiroshima
13/4 Miyajima day trip
14/4 Hiroshima - Osaka
19/4 Osaka - Kansai airport

Thank you

Hi there,

I would get a Kansai - Hiroshima Pass for travel from Kyoto to Hiroshima and Osaka. This is a very cost effective option.

For the other days, I could not really find a pass that would help you make savings, mainly because you spend so much time in Kyoto. As such, I would buy normal rail tickets for the rest.

Kind regards,
Daniel

Hi Daniel

I have looked at the individual journeys and have decided to get a Kansai Hiroshima 5day Pass to cover at least the 12/4-14/4. Thank you for your suggestion.

I am also tossing up the option of getting a
1) 7day rail pass 23/3-29/3 to cover Hakone-Takayama-Kanazawa-Kyoto
(There may not be any savings travelling between cities, but I'm not sure if I will get more use with it within Takayama and Kanazawa) or
2) Takayama-Hokuriku 5day pass 27/3-31/3 to cover Takayama-Shirakawago-Kanazawa-Kyoto
(Again, I'm not sure if I will get more use within Takayama and Kanazawa) Do you think either of these will be worth getting?
