Tokyo - Osaka - Kyoto/Miyajima - Osaka - Tokyo

Hi there,

Wondering if you can help confirm if it's worth getting the 7 day JR pass especially for the travels to Osaka, Kyoto and Miyajima. My itinerary is per below:

Day 1: Arrival in Tokyo
Day 2 - 5: Travel within Tokyo
Day 6 - Travel from Tokyo to Osaka Day 7 - Travel within Osaka Day 8 - Travel from Osaka to Kyoto then back to Osaka Day 9 - Travel from Osaka to Kyoto then back to Osaka Day 10 - Travel within Osaka Day 11 - Travel from Osaka to Miyajima then back to Osaka *Day 12 - Travel from Osaka to Tokyo Day 13 - Travel within Tokyo
Day 14 - Departure from Tokyo

Will the travel by shinkansen in my itinerary be covered by the JR Pass? Would you recommend the normal JR pass or the Green JR pass? Can I use Hyperdia to ensure that I selectthe correct public transports which are under JR instead of private ones?

Hi Shaun,

I think a 14 day JR Pass would suit your itinerary best. You will be traveling quite far, especially the trip to Hiroshima and a 14 day JR Pass would help you make good savings compared to purchasing normal tickets. You will also be 14 days in Japan and the pass would cover nearly all your travel. From the airport into Tokyo, to the last day that you return. A 7 day JR Pass would be good but only if you could use it to return to Tokyo before it expires - right now this period is 8 days.
