Hi we are spending 13 days in Japan end of october, beginning of November. We are a family of 4 ( 2 adults, 2 children: 11yr old and 4yr old)

Day 1 ( arrive Tokyo Haneda airport, staying central tokyo.
Day 5 tokyo- Kyoto
whilst based in Kyoto, we plan to do day trips to Osaka, Nara
Day 9: Kyoto-Hiroshima
plan to take ferry to mirajima island
day 12: Hiroshima-Tokyo
Day 13: tokyo to narita airport

Can we please have advice on the best pass, get the 7 day pass and activate at day 5? Just get the 14 day pass? or are individual tickets the best way to go.

Thanks for your time, much appreciated.

Hi Freya,

A 7-day JR Pass would be the best option, if you returned to Tokyo on day 11, as this would be the last day of the pass validity period.

Alternatively, a 14-day JR Pass might be useful, but only if you added a bit more travel. For example a day trip from Tokyo to Nikko using the Shinkansen.

Alternatively, you could look at normal tickets between Tokyo - Kyoto, and then a Hiroshima Area Pass for travel around Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, Miyajima and so on.

Kind regards,
Daniel
