JR East Tohoku Pass + Upgrade to Green Car & Gran Class

I will be traveling to Tohoku region on 13th November to 22nd November from Tokyo. I will be coming in from Haneda airport on 13th Nov and will proceed to Tokyo station to catch the Tohoku Shinkansen to Aomori. My itinerary will be Tokyo station > 13th Aomori > 17th Akita > 19th Sendai > 22nd Tokyo, a total of 10 days.

  1. Since the JR East Tohoku pass is only valid for 5 days, I will have to purchase 2x JR East Tohoku Pass to last me for the entire 10 days, am I right?

  2. I understand that the JR East Tohoku Pass is only applicable to the normal seats on the shinkansen. What if I would like to upgrade my seats to Green Car seats? Can I upgrade it when I activate my JR East Tohoku Pass at JR East Japan Travel Center in Haneda airport?

  3. I have to activate my second JR East Tohoku Pass on the 18th November, correct? Can I activate it at Akita Station since I will be in Akita on the 18th?

Someone enlighten me please! Thank you in advance! :)

Hi there,

Yes you're right - one pass is valid for 5 days consecutively.

You can't unfortunately 'upgrade' some seats to Green Class - you're option is to purchase a green car ticket separately to the pass.

Yes you can activate the pass at Akita Station !
