14 or 7 day Japan Rail Pass- seems like a close call, especially if we hop on and off JL in tokyo

This is my itinerary for 2 adults and 3 kids (Age 9, 11, 13). Should I get 7 day or 14 day pass? I think it really depends on whether I will use $500 worth of transportation in Tokyo staying at Ueno North station for days 2-8 to make the 14 day pass worth it as it appears that the 7 day pass from Day 9-15 is definitely worth it.
Day 1- arrive at Narita and check in at Ueno North
Day 2- activate 14 day pass if applicable. Round trip Ueno North to, Harujuku, Shibuya
Day 3- Round trip Ueno North to Fukagawa Edo, Kiyosumu gardens, Asakusa
Day 4- Round trip from Ueno North to DisneySea (this is a pricey train ride- seems like it would be $100 at least each way)
Day 5- Round trip from Ueno North to Odaiba
Day 6- Round trip from Ueno North to Sukuji Fish Market and Toyko Sky Tree
Day 7- Round trip from Ueno North to Shinjuku where will take Tour of Mt. Fuji and Hakone so don't need any rail tickets.
Day 8 - Round trip from Ueno North to Yokohama
Day 9- Switch to Kyoto Station lodging -take high speed train to Kyoto
Day 10-Round trip Kyoto to Osaka
Day 11- Round trip Kyoto to Nara
Day 12- Round trip Kyoto to Hiroshima, if time Miyajima. if not then Miyajima next day
Day 13- Round trip to Miyajima or stay in Kyoto
Day 14- Kyoto
Day 15-Take JR back to Tokyo departing HND.
THANK YOU!

Hi there,

I think you'll be perfectly fine using a 7-day JR Pass for travel from Day 9 to Day 15. The JR Pass really shines when used for longer distance intercity travel using the Shinkansen bullet trains. Think of Tokyo ↔ Kyoto or Kyoto ↔ Hiroshima. The JR Pass will also get you go Nara, Osaka, (ferry to) Miyajima and even the monorail back to Haneda Airport.

Then within Tokyo, you could look at using a multi day pass for the metro or just use an IC card like Suica. Looks like a very fun trip btw!

Hope you find this useful,
Daniel

Thank you Daniel. Since we will be taking the JR Yamomoto line a lot, it seems like the IC card is best as the multi day passes don't really cover that line. Good idea for the monorail back to Haneda Airport. I assume that's the monorail from Toyko to the Haneda airport once we take the shinkansen from Kyoto back to Toyko? Thanks for all your help.
