I’m planning on buying my JR pass ahead of my travels but when purchasing, it says to include the date of use and that this must be within 3 months of today. You mentioned previously that it’s ok to book well in advance and that you just delay sending out the exchange order but what do I put in the date of use section then if it’s more than 3 months?
Do I just put in the day I arrive to Japan even if that’s not the day I intend to activate the pass?

Hi Emma,
The one thing to keep in mind here is that any JR Pass needs to be activated within 3 months of issue date. We also keep this in mind when you place an order for a date that will exceed that.
It won't be a problem at all to use your arrival date, if your activation date is say: within 10 days from then. Just keep the 3 month window in mind.

Great thanks Daniel! So if we intend to arrive in Japan on October 29th and activate the pass when we leave Tokyo for Osaka on November 1st, it is ok to put October 29th down as the date of use and you will just send it out to us closer to that date?
Sorry for all the questions, just trying to be 100% sure.

Hi Emma,
Yes - that would be perfectly fine. We typically send your passes out 80 days before your selected date, so Nov 1st will not be a problem.
