Hi, I'm trying to reserve a ticket from Shinjuku to Kawaguchiko using JR Pass and it shows a few routes. One is to take the Kaiji 7 (Car No. 4 to 12) and one is the Fuji Excursion (Car No. 1 to 3). They both have the exact same schedule time and stop at Otsuki. I heard that Fuji Excursion would connect to another (8 -cars) train run by Fujikyuko Line further to Kwaguchiko and I can just pay the extra ticket fee without leaving the Fuji Excursion car. I'm confused now should I book Kaiji 7 (8-cars) or the Fuji Excusions in this case. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Thanks Daniel for your help! I was able to reserve the JR Excursion 7 (car 2) on July 17 from Shinjuku to Otsuki from the JR official website. I emailed the JR Support team and they said I still need to purchase the ticket from Otsuki to Kawaguchiko when I arrive in Japan. I couldn't find a way to purchase it on the Fujikyuko website. I'm worried it would be too late to get the tickets by then. I also read some comments on the web that I can stay in my seat in car 2 at Otsuki, and just pay the conductor the additional fares when the Fuji Excursion attaches to the other train to continue the route to Kawaguchiko. Is this correct?
