Japan Rail Pass suitable

Hello!

We will visit Japan in May 2025. Actually I am looking for some informations about travelling by train.
A possible itinerary may be:
Tokio: 5 days
Kyoto: 3 days
Osaka: 2 days
Kobe: 1 day
Hirshima: 1 day
Tokio:
Nagano: 1 day
Kanazawa: 2 days
Tokio: some days

Is it suitable to buy a 21 day pass? Or is it better to buy the tickes shortly before travelling to den next city. Or is ist possible to use a, for example, 14 day pass on varios days, which do not follow each other.

Thanks, Manuela

Hi Manuela,

You will travel a lot by train! and that's exactly what the JR Pass is for. Personally, I think you could first look at using a 14-day JR Pass and include your longer distance trips. This would definitely include the likes of Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima and Nagano. Then see if you are good for local travel when you are in Tokyo. If you do need the extra flexibility, then a 21-day JR Pass will work too!

Do note that all passes are counted in consecutive days.

Kind regards,
Daniel
