Hello! I am purchasing the JR Pass for myself and my spouse, but my daughter is flying over to join us for a smaller portion of the trip. I have used the fare calculator and it costs less to purchase individual tickets for her based on bullet train use, but I see the JR Pass also covers some local buses (not sure about other local trains or metro??). She will be in Kyoto with us for 2 1/2 days. My question is how much can the JR Pass be used on buses and other local transit in Kyoto? This might make up the cost difference for her to get the JR Pass. Also, if we have the JR Pass and she does not is there any issue reserving seats together? (I will be getting the green pass)

Thank you for your help!

Hi there,

Please have a look at our JR Pass Map and zoom in to Kyoto.

What you'll be able to see here is that the JR Pass covers travel to the south, west and north-west of Kyoto. Such as Arashiyama, Uji, Fushimi Inari, Toji and so on. There's also a local JR bus that runs straight through the city and then goes to the north west of Kyoto.

Outside of this, you'll have to use other transport to explore Kyoto.

Hope this helps!
