Hello, my wife and I are beginning to plan our trip in July and trying to understand as much about transit before we get there!
We arrive at Narita airport at 4pm and want to get to Kyoto that night. Will we have enough time arriving at 4pm to use our JR pass to get to Kyoto, is this realistic?

Hi there,
You should be able to travel to Kyoto that day, unless there are unforeseen changes like a flight delay or long queues at immigration. The last train connection to Kyoto departs at around 19:00 from Narita. Which will likely be enough time, for example I cleared Narita Airport last time in about 40 minutes and was on the train.
That said, if you do want to start a bit more relaxed, consider staying your first night in Tokyo and travelling on the following morning.
