Are we able to reserve seats prior to arriving in Japan or can you only reserve once you have activated your pass when entering Japan. We arrive on 21 March and are travelling various long routes over 11 days and want to ensure our party of 6 are seated together.

Hi there,
You can make seat reservations at any JR ticket office or ticket machine after you arrive in Japan and activate your JR Pass.
The easiest way to ensure you sit together is using the ticket machines. They have an English menu and a seat map that allows you to select six seats in the same row or area.
