I have planned our whole itinerary especially to travel on the SL Hitoyoshi on either 13 or 14 May in Kyushu. My husband is a train buff and part of the reason for going is this train!
. This steam train is covered by the JR pass. We have bought our JR passes here in Australia from an online agent. I have just realised that I can’t reserve seats on this train until I exchange my vouchers in Japan a few days beforehand. I now think there’s a likely chance that we will miss getting a reservation. Is there any way we can reserve it now? What can be done? Maybe it’s already booked out! 😢😢😢

Hi there,

There's not much you can do here I'm afraid. The only thing I can think of is to contact JR Kyushu and see if reservations can be made. Maybe you can buy a normal ticket, then once you arrive in Japan ask to cancel it and quickly rebook the same seats using the JR Pass.

Hi Daniel, thanks for the info! I tried to make reservations but our visa credit card was not accepted. I’m not sure why.
I guess we wait until we arrive.
I hope we don’t miss out on all the special trains we want to go on!
