It's also a direct bullet train trip on the hikari bullet service for jr pass holders. Here's a sample itinerary for you. You sometimes need to adjust the options on hypedia for use with a japan rail pass so we have a video blog on the right settings you need here.

As a jrpass holder you will not be able to use the nozomi services unless you pay the full fare, but in practice this should not be neccesary as there are always alternative bullets.
