Tokyo to Osaka and day trips to Kyoto and other

We are a family of 4. 2 Adults and 2 teenage girls. We will be arriving in Tokyo - Haneda on April 7 ~ 4PM. We leave from the same airport on April 18. We plan to travel light with 1 carry-on each.
We were planning to head to Osaka as soon as we land in Tokyo. Stay in Osaka until the 13th and doing day trips to Kyoto and maybe 1 other area from Osaka. ON the 13th we head back to Tokyo where we remain until the 18th.

Questions:
1. I assume a 7 day JR pass will be worth it and best option since in Tokyo we will use the metro?
2. Is it a good idea to go to Osaka upon arrival or maybe stay in Tokyo 1 night, then head to Osaka?
3. I also wanted to know how exactly do we go from Haneda airport to Osaka? I see there is a monorail, but not sure where to catch the train to Osaka. Details please. its our first time to Japan.

Hi there,

1.) Yes, if you can make the return to Osaka within the 7-day period.

2.) I prefer to do so myself, as it is more relaxed and you don't have to worry about getting on the train in case of a long plane delay. At the same time, I know some people that want to get as much travel as possible behind them, so take what works best for you :)

3.) First make your way from Haneda Airport to Tokyo, take the Tokyo Monorail from Haneda Airport to Hamamatsucho station (the last stop on the Tokyo Monorail). There transfer to the JR Yamanote line to Tokyo station. At Tokyo station you can get on the Hikari Shinkansen to Shin-Osaka station.
