Does the JR Fare calculator include all of Japan?

Answer

Yes, the entire JR network is included. From Hokkaido in the north to Kyushu in the south.

Does the JR Fare calculator work for non-JR lines or the metro?

Answer

No, the tool is specifically built to find the best value for each JR Pass.

Are Shinkansen fares included?

Answer

Yes, all Shinkansen fares are covered. Just search for any Shinkansen route, for example Tokyo to Shin-Osaka.

What if I can’t find a station?

Answer

Please check the spelling, JR stations can have different spellings of contain hyphens. For example: Shin-Osaka or Shin-Tosu. If you still can’t find a station, then it may be a station on a non-JR line. In such a case try to use to closest JR station available.

Are all fare components included (such as Seat fee, and high speed charges).

Answer

Yes, all fare components are included. Note that prices are averages for a selected route and may differ slightly depending on seasonality, type of train used, seat reservations and other factors.

Does the JR Fare calculator work with regional passes, like the JR Kyushu Pass or JR Hokkaido pass?

In principle, it does, but please note that the fare calculator does not contain validity area information for regional passes.

Are JR buses or the JR Ferry to Miyajima included?

Answer

While these are included in the Japan Rail Pass, they are not included in the JR Fare calculator as they don’t travel between train stations.

Which currencies are supported?

Answer

We support a range of popular currencies used at JRPass.com, please note that exchange rates are mid-market rates and may differ depending on bank or card issuer. We recommend using Yen, as this is the base currency.
