We will be in Jaban 26 to 31 Dec, we would like to use the JR Pass on the day of arrival. We plan to purchase the passes now, can we activate and make reservations prior to arrival in Japan? Please advise the best way for us to be able to travel all 6 days in Japan.

Unfortunately you can only activate and make reservations with the pass once in Japan, once you've activated it on arrival. You can still do this but the 26th will be quite busy because of the Christmas period, so it may be worth looking at prebooking at least some of the tickets if you plan on purchasing the pass, or purchasing them all individually.
