Buy pass for November but book trains now?

It is now September 8. We will be in Japan from Oct 31 to Nov 20. If we buy a JR pass now through jrpass.com when will we receive the voucher? Can we then 'trigger' it in Japan on Oct 31? Can we start booking scarce train seats now using the pass we buy now? Or can we after receiving the voucher? Or must we wait until we 'trigger' the pass in Japan to reserve any seats at all?How long does it take to receive a JR Pass from jrpass.com?

Hi there,

If you purchase a pass now the exchange order will be delivered to your address so that you can activate it in Japan - when you choose to activate it is up to you, so yes you can activate it on the 31st. Unfortunately you are unable to make reservations until you have activated the JR Pass.

Delivery time depends on the country you live in, but we recommend ordering at least two weeks in advance.
