We are travelling one way from Kyoto to Tokyo on 27 Dec on the Nozomi/Hikari train, is it possible to buy discounted tickets beforehand? Thanks.

Hi there!
Travel between Kyoto - Tokyo on the Hikari shinkansen is covered by the JR Pass, so there's no need to buy tickets beforehand. You could buy a ticket with a small discount at one of the discount stores if you don't have a JR Pass.
