Hi, we plan to travel between Osaka, Nara( day trip) then to Himeji, Hiroshima and Miyajima 21-24th Nov. We then need to go to Tokyo on the 25th from either Miyajima or Hiroshima. We actually arrive in Japan ( Tokyo ) on 6th November but won’t need a pass then as we are on an organised tour. We now realise that 21-23rd November is a public holiday weekend. When can we make seat reservations?
I think the 5 day Kansai- Hiroshima regional pass is suitable?
To travel to Tokyo is it recommended to travel to Osaka or Kyoto by Shinkansen ( covered by the pass?) then on to Tokyo with a separate ticket? Would we have to change trains to do this? Or, is it preferable to just book a separate Shinkansen all the way to Tokyo from Hiroshima?
Thank you
Kansai Hiroshima regional pass and Hiroshima - Tokyo
Hi there,
The JR Kansai-Hiroshima Area Pass will be perfect for your travels between 21 and 25 November. Given that 21-23 November is a busy public holiday weekend, I suggest making your seat reservations as soon as you pick up your pass in Japan. Reservations can be made either at a JR ticket counter or at the station ticket machines.
For your return journey from Hiroshima to Tokyo, you can present your pass at a manned ticket counter. The JR staff can assist you on site to purchase a fare adjustment ticket that covers the remaining leg of your trip to Tokyo.
I hope this helps!
Kind Regards,
Mariko
Thank you. Am I correct that we can only exchange/pick up the Kansai- Hiroshima pass in Kansai and only make reservations once we have the physical pass?
Can we pick up the pass early but not start using it until the 21st? We will be in Kyoto on another tour a week or so before we need the pass to start. If we pick up the pass there, can we make reservations before the pass starts on 21st. ( am thinking that this would be better given the public holiday weekend)
Hi,
The Kansai-Hiroshima Area Pass can be exchanged or picked up at major JR West stations within the pass coverage area (such as Kansai Airport, Kyoto, Shin-Osaka, Osaka, and Hiroshima). You can see the full list of exchange locations here.
When picking up the pass in Kyoto, you can select a preferred start date and make seat reservations right away.
I hope this helps!
Kind Regards,
Mariko
