How can I get JR passes for more than 21 days for my husband and myself?

We will be traveling as tourists in Japan for 45 days and wanted to buy Japan Rail passes. Is there any way to buy passes for more than 21 days? Can we buy two passes for each of us and just activate the second pass when the first ones expire? That would cover 42 days of travel for each of us.

If two passes are not possible for each person, what are other possibilities?

Hi there,

Yes, you can buy more than 1 pass for your trip. This can either be 1x 7 pass and 1x 21pass or 2x 14 day pass or perhaps use a regional if you don't need the national coverage.

Please note that it is not possible to change or extend a JR Pass once issued.
