I will arrive in Japan and stay in Tokyo for two days before using the JR pass.

Is it possible to activate my green pass and make my reservations but not 'start the clock' on my 7-day ticket until I travel? In other words, does my 7-day pass start expiring before my first trip or does it begin when I am actually on the train?
