One way ticket from Kyoto to Tokyo

My husband and I wish to take the bullet train from Kyoto to Tokyo on the 23rd Oct. what is the best way to book tickets and reserve seats, especially as we do not need to use the train except for this occasion.
Would it be easy to book the train when we get to Kyoto on the 21st. We will be arriving by plane from Beijing and flying back to the UK from Tokyo on the 28th

Hi Cornelia,

Shinkansen rarely sell out (expect on national holidays), so you can just go to the station on the day that you travel and buy the tickets then and there. Travel between Tokyo and Kyoto is very straightforward and a Shinkansen will get you there in around 140 minutes.
