We are traveling to Japan at the end of September (September 20-Oct 1). I read online somewhere that you have to activate your rail pass within 3 months of buying it. Is this so?
When do you suggest we buy our rail passes?

Hi there,
This is correct, I would buy your JR Pass about a month in advance before going to Japan. This way you have plenty of time.
