Is JR Pass Worth Buying for my Itinerary and when should I activate it?

Hi,

My family will be travelling to Japan in late Nov/ early Dec period. There are 2 elderly(with some difficulty walking), 2 adults , 2 teens and 2 child for a 11 day trip.

We will be visiting Osaka, Kobe, Kyoto and Tokyo. Kindly advise if the based on the draft itinerary below, it is worthwhile to purchase JR Pass and on which day should I activate it to maximise savings.

Day 1: Arrival at Kansai Airport - Travel to Shinsaibashi area - Shop around Namba Station area

Day 2: Kurumon Market - Osaka Castle - Cup Noodle Museum - Dotonbori area

Day 3: Kobe - Mt Rokko - Chinatown - Motomachi Station - Osaka

Day 4: USJ

Day 5: Kyoto - Kiyomizo Temple - Fushimi Inari Shrine - Osaka

Day 6: Travel to Toyko, Kinshico Station area.

Day 7: Asakusa area - Tsujiki Outer Market - Tokyo Metropolitan Building -Shibuya

Day 8: Disney

Day 9: Shinjuku - Meiji Shrine

Day 10: Gotemba Premium outlet

Day 11: Shinjuku - Haneda Airport

Hi there,

I checked your itinerary and for this trip a JR Pass would not help you make savings. As my advice is to just buy the tickets as you travel and need them.

A 7-day JR Pass would have made sense, in case of a return Kansai - Tokyo with the Shinkansen bullet trains.
